BH Executive Q&A Series: Kelly Kutach, Chief Marketing Officer

August 13, 2024 |

Each month, BH features a different member of our wildly awesome Executive Team. In this Q&A format, they share thoughts on their role, their career, and the direction of the company in their own words.

Next up, Chief Marketing Officer, Kelly Kutach.

Q: What is the biggest challenge you’re currently facing? How will you overcome it?

A: In true “never-a-dull-moment” fashion, our team is constantly discovering, testing, and evolving the ways we deliver wildly awesome experiences through our marketing initiatives.

With that comes the challenge of convincing myself that we can’t do it all right now. There’s an element of patience to it, but the bigger piece is ensuring we have done the hard work up-front to ensure success when we launch. Thinking through how everything – from budgets to communications to KPIs – comes together seamlessly takes a tiny village (a.k.a. BH Marketing).

Whether our projects happen silently under-the-hood, or make a big splash, we want to be sure we’re thinking ahead to how we positively impact customer experience and property performance.

Q: What is something you are most proud of working for BH?

A: I’m proud that BH stays true to our core values. We don’t just say it, we mean it and we do it. We aren’t afraid to take on new challenges because we understand the importance of our work and the impact it makes on people’s lives.

But mostly, I am proud of the team I lead. This marketing team is the best in the business. I’m proud that we are specialized enough to do it all in-house, which gives us the ability to be more nimble, more effective, and smarter about how we generate demand, measure, and impact customer experience, and create meaningful engagements with the BH brand. It’s beyond cool to see the people on our team doing what they love and supporting their growth.

Q: What is your favorite BH value, and why?

A: This is a hard question because our core values don’t stand alone. The reason why our core values are so tightly woven into our culture is that they work with and support each other. Any company can “embrace evolution,” but it’s that BH is committed to “hearing every voice” throughout the evolution, and always “doing business the right way” that keeps our engines running. The core values were never meant to be a “pick one and do it” kind of thing, and I think that’s why people connect with all of them.

Q: What “keeps you up at night”?

A: I am a light sleeper and a professional worrier, so you name it, and I can worry about it…tsunami flood zones, salamander extinction, white or wheat. However, I lose very little sleep over work-related things (see above). There are a few things that tend to bump around in my head if I do wake up in the middle of the night.

“Am I doing my best to support my team?”

“How could I have handled [insert here] better?”

“What have I learned?”

“What can I learn from [insert here]?”

Q: What helps you sleep at night? (In other words, what things help you handle the everyday challenges of your position?).

A: I am supported on all sides by an incredible team of leaders, and I know that surrounding them are talented, smart, caring, capable people who are committed to BH’s core values. I know we can solve any problem. I know we will work through the sticky places. And I know that, in the end, even the hard stuff makes us stronger. I know that the people around me trust that I am here to do my best work and that I am showing up to support them and challenge us all to be our best.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time to relax?

A: I am an avid runner, cyclist, and cross-country skier. It’s not just about getting outside and being in nature, I love pushing myself to get stronger and go further or faster. It might not sound relaxing, but there are few problems a three-hour run can’t solve.
